Re.Tie.Erd.

For Sale, one extremely well-used World of Warcraft lanyard.IMG_0220
Send me an email if you’re interested. Don’t ask me, “How Much?” because I’m just going to take the person who offers the most, even if it’s just a quarter, and get this done.

I hope my email didn’t discourage you from ever returning to Wow and Wow-blogging, Daniel. It was supposed to be encouraging you! Have you seen the state of Wow-blogging lately, especially at Wow.com (formally Wowinsider.com)? It’s sad, sad, sad. We need you, and we need you bad. (Although I know your position, you’ve been pretty clear about that.)

  2. lotharn says:

    What is that anyway?

Why is the C in Warcraft capital?

  3. Trixie says:

I’d only consider it if the SM key were attached. WTH did you get that anyway?

  4. Bonewalker says:

Um…why exactly are we retired again, Brain?

Because we were told it ruined our real life.

But, didn’t we have fun? More fun than just about anything else we’ve ever done?

    Yep.

Except for that one time when we got the pool table delivered overseas…

Well, yes, but you have to understand things are different now.

Sure, sure, but creating a quick 10-day free trial account wouldn’t be so bad would it? We could get a certain dwarvish hunter to level 20 in no time and we’d have a pet kitty at level 10!

Don’t even think about it. You don’t understand how obsessed you become.

Yeah, obsessing over fun. That is bad.

Don’t be sarcastic with me…I know where that switch is and I can turn it off in a heartbeat!

Nooooo!!! I feel a great disturbance in the WoW, as if millions of voices suddenly cried out in terror, and were suddenly silenced.

  5. Eteryu says:

Hey, I could use a lanyard… too bad online shopping is a no-no for me. =(

  6. Cromulento says:

Sorry to hear that you’re fully retired, Daniel. I understand, but wouldn’t it be nice if something you truly, truly enjoyed and loved could fit into your life? I’m lucky because, even though I have 2 kids (9 and 5, the 9-year-old plays WoW with me a couple of times per week), everyone (including wifey) goes to bed early, so I have a couple of hours at night a few nights a week to geek out on WoW. You’re missed, and your bigredkitty site was fantastic. Really got me playing a hunter again, and you’ve quite a talent for not only dissecting the hunter class, but in presenting it well. God bless and good fortune.

    Crom

  7. Evidences says:

I’m a little short on money right now but I’ve got some pocket lint and a piece of bubblicious I’d be willing to part with.

  8. Clioratha says:

I’m on hiatus from WoW myself so I’ll pass (that, and red isn’t my color).

The burning question I have is….how soon did it get sold?

  9. Llyrra says:

Can’t put in enough of my two cents (not for the lanyard) but for you visiting Azeroth again. We keep falling down that hole you left beeeeehiiiiiiiiinnnnd…….

  10. Michael says:

hmmm.. i will give you a quarter for some awesome BigRedKitty loot… can I also get it signed in Sharpie? included with your account name, password and authenticator key? :)

In all seriousness… you are missed Daniel… I was listening to the Wow Insider 100 show.. and they mentioned you and that you were in the chat channel.. and I just smiled… The community misses you… I know that family is more important, but don’t turn your back on something that gave you so much joy.

    Take care my friend…
    Michael

P.S – Email Schramm and even if you are the show for a few moments, it would be awesome

  11. Magebleck says:

    To Danial, BRK, and Brain;

I understand you handed in your World of Warcraft resignation and managment has had some time to look over your resignation and made a decision.

    No.

I’m sorry but at this time we are unable to accept your resignation. I understand that this may be against your hopes, but we have made an informed and throught out decision. If you would like to submit a new resignation letter in 6 months and re-apply, feel free.

    Thank you,
    Managment

  12. GamerGirl says:

    Daniel,

I feel for you. Really I do. I understand needing to step back and reevaluate how you are spending your time. I think you are punishing yourself and blaming yourself for your separation and divorce. Your wife leaving may have had some to do with WoW but I can guarantee you it was not the only thing. I’m betting she has skeletons in her own closet and blaming you for your supposed faults and short comings is easier than for her to take responsibility for her own.

If you don’t want to play WoW. That’s great. More power to you, but I want you to understand that you have friends, so many friends, from that world that would help you with anything ingame or out in a heart beat. We are not just voices over the internet. We care. We worry. I just want you to know that it’s not your fault, stop beating yourself up and relax. Let yourself live and enjoy life. Blaming yourself and beating yourself up, punishing yourself is not the answer. I know.

Ginger- once divorced now happily married to my best friend who happens to share my hobbies (gaming, ect). We work towards a balance constantly. Sometimes we decided that we’ve been playing too much and we take a month off to get our stuff done and then ease back in to it. We also go camping, back packing and raise goats. It’s about balance. You should do the things you enjoy, just remember moderation.

  13. Aliora says:

I don’t know exactly why, but this post made me feel so sad.

    /cry

  14. Ommadon says:

Ouch! This is a big sting in our hopes of you coming back Daniel. I know I might sound like a little crying kid, but if you happened to notice during the WoWInsider 100 show, there were a lot of people in that room, myself included, who all said “we miss you BRK, please come back.” Even for one measly minute. And as you can see from some above comments, some people refuse your retirement. I don’t mean to sound immature, but I think you should at least come back for one show every now and then. Doesn’t have to be every week, or every month, but there are people out there who really enjoyed having your helping hand in all things Hunter. I hope you have a spare lanyard, because you may find that one day in the future, the game will call…
    Best of luck,
    -Ommadon

  15. Llyrra says:

and we really don’t mean to push you into something you may not be ready for; like Gamergirl said, we’re all still with you no matter what you do, but you have a lot of friends here in CyberSpace that are as real as any one sitting on your couch. I’d also hate to see you totally give up something that brought you so much joy just because of what happened between you and your wife. You’re punishing yourself. Don’t do that.

  16. Brian says:

    We miss you BRK!

  17. kunukia says:

Jeez, guys. I miss the heck out of Big Red Kitty also, but it’s HIS life! Give the man some credit for knowing what to do with it!
And, darn, I have been outbid!

  18. God says:

Too bad that BRK…er..I mean… Daniel is “turning in the lanyard”, but it’s his life, and it’s not like he deleted all his characters and snapped his WoW disks. He’s just decided that for the foreseeable future he won’t be coming back. Family and RL comes first, and, if he feels like it in a few months, he can try playing WoW again, mabeye even get his son in on it (or some other more age appropriate games).

  19. Gimmlette says:

Hmmmm, tempting but I have 3 lanyards currently hanging on a doorknob. That’s where this one would go.

If you’re going to start penciling out your stash, sign it and auction it off for a charity. Is there something still up and running in memory of Sharvan?

You never did tell us about getting another wall. I hope your new job comes with an office that has at least 3 walls.

  20. kunukia says:

    @God (God, really?)
Yes, he did delete, he said so, several weeks ago.

  21. Different Spencer says:

@kunu- He didn’t say he deleted BRK, just the game.

@Iotharn- look at the logo, it’s always had the c capitalized.

  22. kunukia says:

Right you are, Different Spencer, I went back and looked. Well, it could be interpreted as both kinds of delete, and I put the most depressing spin on it. Still…
OK, my personal feeling on all of this is, if the guy has decided it ain’t for him, then even if he is not ‘addicted’ in the classical sense, it is just bloody rude to keep nagging him to come back. I would not do it to a friend or family member that I knew had struggled to make a decision, so why would I do it to him. It would be selfish.

  23. Formerly the Scourge says:

Y’all need to back off Daniel in pushing him to take up WoW and BRK again. I used to write the Scourge Death Knight Blog. It is a lot of hard work. My efforts were no where near as polished as BRK’s and I easily put in nearly 20 hours or more a week writing it. That time doesn’t include actual WoW playtime. As you know raiding is a significant time commitment as well.

WoW blogging is easily a second job. One that doesn’t pay well, if at all, at that. Comments and appreciation/adoration do make bloggers feel good, but at the end of the day there is only so much time a week and it doesn’t matter how fun an activity is when there are bills to pay and children to raise.

Please appreciate the fact that Daniel is still writing and sharing his life with us.

    @Daniel,
You already know and understand this, do what you feel is right and in time enough good decisions will lead to good results.

    Respectfully,

  24. adam carvalho says:

hey Daniel just wanted to say that i wish i could and my tribute character has became my main… hunter named bigredkitty with his pet airmanhowell

  25. Laurin says:

I’m sure Daniel has put alot of thought into this already, and while I’m sad to see him go, it is his choice and only he know what s best for him :)

Lets just enjoy his new blog, (which s fantastic by the way), and appreciate the fact that he still takes time out of his day to sit down and talk to us.

I hope you get a good price for your lanyard Daniel!

  26. redhunt says:

and anyway more hunter loot for me :)

  27. franko says:

i miss BRK as much as any azerothian, and i’m not even a hunter or have ever even PLAYED a hunter — i’m a mage!

but in all seriousness, while i feel personally that it’s possible to balance RL and WoWtime, WoW does not fit into everyone’s life all the time. this is daniel’s decision, and his alone. i feel it’s over the line for us to beg, cajole, and basically badger him into picking up the mouse again. it’s very presumptuous of us to assume we understand everything that led to BRK hanging up his weapons and putting his pets to stable. if he comes back, there will be parties in the street. but it has to be HIS decision. so, in short, i /salute you, BRK, i miss you like hell, but i’m glad your RL blog is here. i hope some day blizzard decides to honor you in-game somehow, because i for one feel you totally deserve it.

  28. Ivee says:

I too have enjoyed every BRK video and post. There are many people who try to quit and can’t and it’s kind of troublesome to beg someone who has quit to come back. kind of like his meth dealer. it would be much cooler if you guys stopped this nonsense. go ahead and say, ‘we will miss you in the game – and we will miss all of this great content you produced for us’ but please have some respect and stop there. begging someone to play again after they have really quit is kind of rude and exposes your noobosity.

now, the thing I would love to see is some other venue where daniel would podcast or videocast something he is interested in. i really enjoy his voice and his style of explanation. i think he would be really good at it.

whatever daniel and his family does i hope he finds the happiness he is looking for and he can feel a little less weighed down and tugged on by the draw of the game every day (that’s how i felt when i quit).

  29. Pablo says:

Aww, seriously, if TJ and Ratshag can’t get him back into the game then I don’t think any of us mere mortals stand a chance.

He’s got a job to do being single daddy to a great little kid, the puppy of love and the worlds most serious cat. My hat’s off to ya Daniel.

  30. Kliu says:

Simply put, your take on wow will always be missed. It was a funny and delightful part of the day to read your take on a fun game many people enjoy. That said:

Here is hoping to we get to continue to hear your take on everything else, as its always amusing as hell. ;)

  31. Boozie says:

I miss BRK. I check the site once a week hoping for a return. He schooled me in the ways of the hunter and wow in general. I stopped playing my hunter shortly after BRK retired. It just didn’t feel right to me. If BRK returns so will my hunter.

  32. Dalaila says:

    > I stopped playing my hunter shortly after BRK
    > retired. It just didn’t feel right to me.

BRK was a fun (500% wow addicted) blogger. And a great player, I suppose. Now do not tell me you stopped playing WoW because he quit. Come on.

  33. Garfunkel of Hellscream says:

    Thank you for everything BRK!
You helped me become a better hunter from day 1, and best of all……it was a lot of fun!
    /salute to you Sir

  34. boozie says:

No I didn’t quit playing wow. Just retired my hunter(for now) and rolled a priest.

  35. Morgan Bleck says:

i know that a lot of you took my post above about rejecting his resignation request seriously… It was a joke.

I don’t even play all that much anymore… It’s not because of BRK, but rather because I got tired of spending so much time in game and realized I was taking something that was suppose to be fun and getting WAY to serious about it (IE yelling and cursing at people to ninjaed etc..)

I support your decision Daniel and hepe all is working out for the better. You did a great job of blogging RE WoW and I think you would be greatly rewarded if you start a part time sociall networking consultation company. Look where techdirt started and how much they bring in now. (Also, I think you should have gone with Lockheed, but thats just my opinion.)

Peace, take care, and have fun.

  36. ayla says:

    @ GamerGirl
You put to words everything i wanted to say to Daniel and didn’t know how.
