I had a couple of people send emails asking me to post more detailed pictures of the Snap Circuits kit that my son is enjoying.
…
And that I’m enjoying, yes.
Notice that all the pieces are rounded and the actual electronics are partially recessed to reduce the chance of damage.
The diagrams are designed to show the “level” of the pieces. If there’s a little “1″ to the side of the piece on the diagram, that means the pieces attaches directly to the plastic mounting plate. If there’s a “2″, that means the pieces is places on top of the pieces that are attached directly to the plastic mounting plate, and so on.

This is certainly one of the coolest toys I’ve ever seen.
I want this soooooooooooooo bad =(
Man, I want these for my grade 9 science class that I am going to have to teach about circuits. The fact that it’ll look like an actual circuit diagram will certainly help them understand what is going on. Yay for ohms.
You should go to snapcircuits.net and check out all the cool projects and forums… if you haven’t already…
Yippee, now I now what I want to get my son for his upcoming 7th birthday! Logic Design was one of my favorite classes and this looks like a blast. Did I say it was for my son? Yes, yes; it is for my son. I will just *help*.
My son, who is in the 2nd grade, received one of these kits for his birthday when he turned six. He loved it and still does. We love it, too, mainly because it nicely solved all science faire project issues for us for the foreseeable future. A very cool toy!
These things are awesome! I played with them in elementary school (high school now) and they were awesome. The set even comes with a big book of things you can build following their instructions like radios, lights, etc. It’s pretty awesome. If I remember correctly it even explains some of the workings.
I have one of these too, bought it about 2 years ago, i just recently found out from the manufacturer that you can buy a kit to upgrade this SC-300 model to the gigantic SC-750 ( http://www.cs-sales.net/upsctosc4.html) . This thing is so fun, i just need to find the timt to start and finish the second book of projects.
ps just noticed they have an update to the book, and use created projects. They have some other cool stuff on there main site – http://www.cs-sales.net/ ; and no i do not work for them i just enjoy these things greatly, they remind me of the old school ones from radio shack (which carries these not to in my local store).
Oh boy they have a hard, foam lined case for all the kites as well i am officially a kid in a candy store.
Funny thing is I have had to do thing similar to this kit for my lab exams in college. Good hands on training for the kid if he has an interest in physics or engineering . . . but that maybe thinking a bit far in advance for the kid.
What would be the age range on these? I mean.. obviously as adults we love to play with them, but for kids what do you think would be good? Trying to plan for Christmas…

Obviously this is good for the 40 yo kids out there (including Daniel
). As for how young, well, why not ask your own little survey sample if he or she would enjoy building little machines that run on electricity? Answer is probably yes. =)
I WANT ONE!!!
My nephew is SOOO getting one of these in a few years!
WHERE did you find such a thing?
I bought one for my son last christmas, in the UK its called ‘hot wires’, we built a radio for it which he thought was really cool, then today my youngest son (3) found it and we turned on a light and made the helicopter thing fly up in the air.

Really nice toy for the kids (and me
