I bought one for my son last christmas, in the UK its called 'hot wires', we built a radio for it which he thought was really cool, then today my youngest son (3) found it and we turned on a light and made the helicopter thing fly up in the air.
Really nice toy for the kids (and me ;) )

Obviously this is good for the 40 yo kids out there (including Daniel :P). As for how young, well, why not ask your own little survey sample if he or she would enjoy building little machines that run on electricity? Answer is probably yes. =)

What would be the age range on these? I mean.. obviously as adults we love to play with them, but for kids what do you think would be good? Trying to plan for Christmas...

Funny thing is I have had to do thing similar to this kit for my lab exams in college. Good hands on training for the kid if he has an interest in physics or engineering . . . but that maybe thinking a bit far in advance for the kid. ;)

I have one of these too, bought it about 2 years ago, i just recently found out from the manufacturer that you can buy a kit to upgrade this SC-300 model to the gigantic SC-750 ( http://www.cs-sales.net/upsctosc4.html) . This thing is so fun, i just need to find the timt to start and finish the second book of projects. :P

ps just noticed they have an update to the book, and use created projects. They have some other cool stuff on there main site - http://www.cs-sales.net/ ; and no i do not work for them i just enjoy these things greatly, they remind me of the old school ones from radio shack (which carries these not to in my local store).

These things are awesome! I played with them in elementary school (high school now) and they were awesome. The set even comes with a big book of things you can build following their instructions like radios, lights, etc. It's pretty awesome. If I remember correctly it even explains some of the workings.

My son, who is in the 2nd grade, received one of these kits for his birthday when he turned six. He loved it and still does. We love it, too, mainly because it nicely solved all science faire project issues for us for the foreseeable future. A very cool toy!
