Jeff-SundaySo I have an attorney, that’s no surprise. My attorney has lots, and lots… and LOTS of stories. They were so plentiful and so funny that I suggested that he consider writing a blog.

Color me surprised when he actually asked for my help.

I am now happy to assist with the publishing of a blog about divorce stories:

Not Your Typical Divorce Stories

My attorney is completely new to the idea of blogging, so I’m doing the technical work while he provides the content.

If you would be so kind as to pop on over to his place, read his first story, and maybe even write a comment, I would personally be very appreciative.

/thanks you

Are you sure he’s not doing the technical work while you’re providing the content? Just saying…

  2. Xlade says:

Great site, sure to be entertaining. One question though. Why blogger and not wordpress.com?

  8. Daniel says:

    Why blogger and not wordpress.com?

Because it’s easy, free, easy, and free.

You did the right thing to help him, that guy sure got potential!

Hm… not sure I really care for the stories. Divorce is painful, and ya, sometimes there’s an element of humor to some part of it, but having gone through it I really have a hard time laughing at the pain of someone else. Like the guy in the first story who ended up being so messed up from the marriage breakdown that he gave up everything to just have it backfire in his face. Sure there’s an interesting bit of cathartic wisdom in there about thinking clearer when you’re stressed, but the poor guy’s life is in shambles. Plus, I’m not sure how I would feel about some lawyer telling stories about my life, even if he changed the names. At some point are we going to see a funny story about “this geeky guy who was addicted to a video game”?

Anyway. Just not my cup of tea, but glad you can put your skills to use.

    Funny story.

Does he realize the power of BRK/Daniel’s endorsement for his blog? He’s gonna be overwhelmed by his hits. Maybe he’ll give you a discount off his legal fees in return for his instant success? :)

Interesting and sad story. This guy has potential.
    Now for my comments:
    1) I use blogger for my blog because it’s easy and free. This also makes it a target for phishers. Two of the WOW blogs I read have been targets, one seems to hit my virus alert about every 6 weeks. The other, once every 3-4 months. Soooo, if his blog does get popular, he should expect phishers to try to attach something to it. It’s a known problem with blogger.
    2) Change the look. His blog looks almost identical to Citizen Azeroth (one of the blogs hardest hit by virus attacks, at the moment). It’s probably just a huge coincidence that it looks very close to the style and color selection of this WOW blog I read, but I’m thinking there’s more creativity he could play with. Of course, he could be the type of person who just wants to open up, write and hit “publish”.
That’s my nickel’s worth. I’ll come back next week and see what he writes.

Hey BRK, ask him to change his settings so the RSS-feed with throughput the whole post, and not just the title, so we can enjoy his chat from an RSS-reader.. =)

  15. Kimchiboy says:

    Read, enjoyed, advertised on Facebook.

    Poor John… he got worked.

Good stuff! You might mention to him that the spray-on tan orange look? Not flattering.. ;)

Hey Daniel – here are some suggestions for your friend. First, he should join Technolawyer if he isn’t already a member (technolawyer.com). The legal community there can be really helpful, and if he can get mentioned in their weekly “blawgworld” article, so much the better. One of my favorites that I started reading is the nutmeg lawyer – who has been noted as being a real up and comer in legal blogging. You can find him here: http://thenutmeglawyer.blogspot.com/

Great job with your new apprentice. He is a good read. Will you get a discounted rate for every hundred hits? i hope you do!

  19. Alan says:

So, you think your divorce attorney is your friend. I will be curious to see how you feel about him and his profession by the time everything is finalized and you have the bill. Most people I know – 5-figure bill, incompetent work, and those friendly chats – oops, billed every 6 minutes for them. Maybe you’ve found an exception. Here’s hoping.

  20. Joe says:

Definitely very very funny. Despite what many think, “John’s” problems were brought on by no one but himself. He could have gotten his life in order but he chose to sit there with three apes that didn’t know what divorce meant or how to deal with a sudden shift in family life like that. We’re all responsible for our own choices.

That being said, it’s awesome that you’re helping him with his new blog and I’m eager to see more divorce stories as I’m SURE there are plenty out there to be told.

  21. Jason says:

Awesome read. One issue for you Dan: RSS only shows the first 5 lines or so on his blog.

  22. Angie says:

hmmm…I’m actually EXTREMELY hesitate to comment because, while I have been “blog lurking” for some time I have only recently “popped my cherry” and commented anywhere…now it seems like I feel the need to do so ALL the time (despite years of being able to keep my trap shut! ;/)

Anyways *jumping into the fire* I think it’s great you are helping out a …well, a friend or whatever…BUT I have to admit to major ‘hesitancies’ with the whole divorce stories thing. This guy needs to be a) good – no, lets be honest, given his chosen topic, he needs to be GREAT; and b) he seriously needs to understand the word DISCRETE.

I will reserve judgment, but you’re endorsing him…so, is he good? does he understand what it means to protect those who approach him professionally? Or will your little story find its way to the interwebs in a form you were/are not prepared for…will you be, in a year or two, the guy for whom the orangutan story didn’t work out so well for -(go on, take a moment, be THAT guy reading reading THIS post…ready to find the nearest bridge???) How’s his mom feeling? His dad? sister?

Now, I SO get I am exaggerating a point here…but I am only doing so in order to make it.

    Just a thought…

I think it’s great to share funny stories even if it’s about something that’s sad like Divorce. Just because it’s not a fun experience doesn’t mean you can’t smile or laugh at some of the silly things people do to themselves. Is it any different than laughing at videos of people doing stupid yet funny things that probably hurt them physically while skateboarding, racing, etc?

I shared his blog with my buddies. It was great!

“At some point are we going to see a funny story about “this geeky guy who was addicted to a video game”?”

    This.

  25. Si says:

ah now you’ve done it, i dont what the traffic is like on your personal blog compared to BRK, but im pretty sure i wont be far off. I remember the last time you linked a blog in a post encouraging folks to check it out, that blog got a lot of attention from your loyal followers.
    Si.
