Do You Know Daniel: TV

1. Which of the following TV shows does Daniel not record and watch:

A. That cartoon of the punk kid with the talking dog, but has two hot redhead scientist sisters.

B. Phineas and Ferb (FERRRRB!)

C. Tabitha’s Salon Makeover (ignore the face, just ignore it.)

D. Big Bang Theory (who knew that of all the people on Rosanne, the boyfriend would become so cool!)

2. Which HBO series does Daniel hate the most?

A. Sopranos, the first three years

B. Sex and the City

C. The vampires who die and have sex and some pre-teen named Sookie? WTH?

D. Sopranos, post Big P^ssy’s stupid, STUPID whacking.

3. Which Food Network show does Daniel like the least?

A. Ace of Cakes Guy Worked at the French Laundry and QUIT?

B. Worst Cook in America, (makes me feel SO GOOD about myself.)

C. Chopped, (I want to see this with the best Food Network chefs trying it.)

D. Diners, Drive Ins, and Dives (just no more two-foot long hotdogs, I’m begging you.)

4. Which Iron Chef does Daniel like the least?

A. Big Italian Guy Who Wears Crocs (Kroks?)

B. Kat Cora (Cat Cora? Kat Kora?)

C. Morimoto, (who I saw on the original show in Japan and was MUCH better there)

D. That punk Simon.

5. Which Chopped judge would Daniel like to have dinner with?

A. The short girl who kills with a look but for some reason totally rocks.

B. The master of Latin cooking who’s never cooked anything, Arrrrrrron Sanchez.

C. The white-haired guy who thinks pepper is too hot.

D. The blond who lost on The Next Iron Chef but somehow landed this judging gig?

6. What’s is Daniel’s belief is the best use of HD technology?

A. PBS HD Antiques Roadshow, (I wonder if my trash is worth $1000 at a retail store…)

B. Food Network HD The Barefoot Contessa, (the greatest sleep-aid ever devised.)

C. HD Theater Mecum’s Auto Auction, (I will own a 1959 Corvette someday thanks to that show.)

D. ESPN HD anything but hockey, which continues to be worthless on TV but incredible in person.

7. Which BBC America show can Daniel not stop watching?

A. Anything with that rumpled car repair/sales guy who gets excited about driving a 1970 Fiat, and his gangly mechanic Ed.

B. Kitchen Nightmares with Gordon Ramsey, making British cooking oh so good. (/gag)

C. The F Word, (someday people will realize that anything with Ramsey is worth watching, just don’t change him!)

D. How Clean is Your House, (dear Elune quit SCARING ME. I need to wash my house with bleach like right now.)

8. On a scale of 1 -10, how upset does Daniel get that all of Orlando invariably watches the Jaguars, Bucs, or Dolphins every stinking week when his friend in Seattle gets the best games all the D@MN time?

A. 3 (we love our local teams!)

B. 7 (at least we get these crappy games in HD.)

C. 10 (local games should be blacked out based upon record, not attendance!)

D. 14 (I sold Seattle to North Korea; my bad.)

9. You remember Queer Eye for the Straight Guy? Of course you do. What else does Bravo do that Daniel likes?

A. They have a good cooking show, I heard? Padma? Or is that Star Wars?

B. Seal’s wife keeps popping out kids and still goes back to modeling swimsuits and lingerie. There’s a show about this, right?

C. Fashion? They have a fashion contest show, I heard?

D. Tabitha!

10. If Daniel ran Food Network, what would be their next show?

A. Jeff Steingart, the professional food critic who judges lots of their shows, travels America, a la “Diners, Drive Ins, and Dives”, and just critiques the h3ll out of everything, improving our restaurants for everybody.

B. Bill Nye the Science Guy buys drive-thru food and teaches us how much e-coli is in everything we eat every day.

C. Chopped for The Pro’s where a viewer gets to pick what ingredients to use for dinner. First episode, Flay, Batalli, Morimoto, and Cora have to use lentils, orange marmalade, pigs knuckles, a Twinkie, and a bag of three week old salad. I just won the ratings wars, didn’t I?

D. Alton Brown Runs for President. Does anybody think an underpants bomber gets on a plane if A.B. is running the place?

    Sunlight good…

Just kidding! It’s like those fishing shows. You know, when you’re flipping channels and come across one and BAM! Hypnotized! Antiques roadshow is addictive like that – but they really need some new ones. I get pulled in by the black and white movies on TCM too. /embarrassed

  2. Kate says:

I haven’t had cable in many, many years but I’ll give it a go.
    1.
No guess here. I’ve never heard of any of those shows.
    2.
I’ve only seen Sex & the City, but vampire movies are so often done horribly, so C is my best guess.
    3.
Again, I haven’t seen any of these, so I’ll go with the only thing I learned in college. When in doubt: C.
    4.
Iron Chef (the Japanese version) gives me the heebie geebies. I’ll guess B, since so many people detest Crocs. They make an excellent work shoe. Danskos are better, though.
    5.
You mention this show quite a bit. I think I may have to look it up on hulu. No guess here.
    6.
    E. None of the above. I would think you answer would be Netflix given your post about awesome netflix-ready tv.
    7.
I’m torn between A and D. It seems that you would get hooked on any show about old cars, but D sounds like a train wreck. You just can’t look away no matter how horrendous it is. (Big Brother or Real Life anyone??)
    8.
    My gut says C.
    9.
The obvious looking choice is D, but I’m suspicious…
    10.
My personal choice is B. Gawd that would be an awesome show. Hire Michael Moore to produce it.

  3. Mikey says:

    1. A
    2. B (anything Sopranos except the last 3 minutes is awesome. I hate they killed off Silvio) and Sookie is soooo sexy.
    3. A
    4. D (Love Morimoto but i miss Sakai)
    5. C
    6. B (Seeing her in HD would give me nightmares)
    7. D
    8. D
    9. A
    10. D (Alton Brown for President!!!!)

  4. Trevor says:

I don’t have the attention span to attempt to answer all of these (correctly), but I love all of your ideas for the Food Network. In fact I just love the Food Network in general, except for a select few hosts who just drive me nuts. Alton for president!

  5. Jamie says:

HA! There is no PBS Antiques roadshow in HD! If there was, then I wouldn’t have to watch their stretched out cartoons all day long!!

  6. Canth says:

    D

The answer is D to every question.

  7. BryGy says:

You forgot the best show on BBC America Top Gear.

  8. Craig says:

The best show on any BBC (or any other channel for that matter) is Doctor Who. No other show matters. I can’t believe you watch the Food Channel this much.

  9. DM Osbon says:

If BBC America is showing Being Human then I would definately give that a try…

The first 3 seasons of The Sopranos are easily the best.

  10. Veronica says:

    My best guesses are:
    1. A
    2. C (If it’s not C please lie to me and tell me it is anyway.)
    3. A
    4. D
    5. A
    6. D
    7. C
    8. C
    9. D
    10. C (That would be an awesome show!)

I feel like I should change one of my answers to B just because, but I’ll stick with these and see how I do.

  11. Evil Sheep says:

Not even going to try to answer these questions, but I will say that Tabitha’s Salon Makeover is one of the best reality shows I’ve ever seen. For those that haven’t watched it, try to catch the one where she takes over Chicago Male.

And Daniel is right. Ignore the face….

  12. Zaw says:

who among us couldn’t show up on Big Bang Theory?

  13. Will says:

Props on listing BBT among your favorite shows, but poop on your for talking down about the TV series of dead untill dark. Even though I do agree that there was to much sex in the first season that made me think I was watching softcore cable porn I still enjoyed it. I have her newest book sitting right next to me at school that my brother got me for christmas. =(

  14. poilbrun says:

Question 8 is one of the few media-related reasons why I’m happy to be in Europe: we get everything late, movies, tv shows, books… but we have access straight from the NFL website to any game we want, live or not. The best part is that starting from the day following a game, we don’t get any ads. True, if I was in the US, I’d have installed a DVR ages ago, but I was only able to get one installed about two months ago here!

  15. Tom says:

The Food Nerwork’s gone right in the crapper since they let go of Mario and Emeril and brought in all those reality/competition shows and Guy Fieri. There’s nothing left for me on the Food Network anymore.

  16. Mindranor says:

My little brother has a theory regarding Iron Chef America: if they want you to win handily, they will put you against Simon; if they want you to have a shot, they’ll put you against Cora. If they want you to lose, they will pit you against Morimoto, and if they want to embarrass you into paroxysms of self-loathing, they will try to convince Batali to show up for an episode, where he will finish with enough time left over to make drinks for himself and his assistants and trounce you by ten points in the final scoring.

  17. Daniel says:

if they want to embarrass you into paroxysms of self-loathing, they will try to convince Batali to show up for an episode

Ain’t that the truth, too. OK, this calls for a post of its own.

  18. Rua says:

Where does Iron Chef Flay fit into that list, I wonder?

  19. Mindranor says:

They use Flay when they want to deplete the hot pepper and mango populations. He’s sort of the middle ground, he’ll usually be beaten by an excellent traditionalist but his innovative (if annoying) approach to food gets him a lot of wins for sheer originality.

Re: 1.A Johnny Test (no, not Quest, that’s different) is a good show. It seems like it’s almost 1/5 of CN’s programing some of the time, but the characters are funny

    1. Uptight House-dad (understandably so)
    2. Genius older sisters with a crazy research lab
    3. talking dog sidekick
    4. Obnoxious rich kid who’s in love with one of #2
    5. School yard bully
    6. Working Alpha-wolf mom

  21. Veronika says:

    1. No opinion, but personally prefer B.
Even a mediocre animation usually beats out the average people show and i don’ know A.
    2. Hoping for loathing of C and D followed closely by B. Early Sopranos seemed palatable.

yada yada no opinion on cooking things

    7. Now about the beeb, you must admit they’re all pretty great. Grossed out by the house girls (what is that on Kim Woodburns head? I know its supposed to be hair but often resembles an english breakfast sausage).
And Gordon, can’t help but love the guy.
    Top Gear? must have

Now about the English food? It’s astonishingly good although much of the cuisine in England can’t really be called english anymore. But it’s ethnic stuff is off the charts.
Best fish and chips at the Tate Modern Restaurant courtesy of Bruce Wilson.
Moro’s (great cookbook) in Islington is a revelation
Tayyabs in Whitechapel best ever chops (BYOB)

  22. Rick says:

I was first tuned into Diners, Drive-ins and Dives on a trip to Portland for my birthday. I

love greasy spoons so we made our way over to the Byways Cafe (yummy yummy). From then I was

hooked, we’ve been on a couple trips so far like Utah and Chicago which was awesome! Plan on

hitting up a few more soon.
