Answering the Mail Bag

1. Yes, I’m trying the WoW Friends and Family Alpha. BRKworgen and BRKgoblin are running amok.

2. No, I’m not going to violate the Non-Disclosure Agreement.

3. No, this does not mean I’m coming back to “play” WoW. My account has not been active for a year and it isn’t active now.

4. No, TJ is not going to be the BRK Executive Assistant. Not because she wouldn’t rock at it, but frankly she’s extremely busy with wedding plans and electro-shocking Phil’s thumbs into the air.

5. Yes, a new BRK EA is being groomed.

6. Yes, my son is the most important person or thing in my life. He and his mother and I are linked for the rest of our lives. I wish her nothing but happiness and success as that will make her a better mother for our son, as I hope she wishes for me to be a better father. I will never bare our family issues in a public forum, ever. Just like every marriage that doesn’t turn out as we hoped, both parties had their roles to play in how everything evolved, both good and bad. My marriage did not end because of WoW, but last May I did quit WoW to focus on saving my marriage. At this point, we are both much happier than we were for many years, and that’s what’s best for our son, which is what’s most, and basically all, that’s important.

7. No, I will not be covering the entire frickin’ expansion.

8. No, I will not be min-max’ing.

9. No, I will not be developing shot-rotations.

10. No, I will not be espousing one spec over another.

11. Yes, I am going to try be a Hunter Tour Guide for Cataclysm. That is an excellent nom de guerre.

12. Yes, I will be maintaining both websites.

13. Yes, I’m going to do everything I can to keep Mania out of the alpha and beta. (/giggle snort)

14. Yes, Ghostcrawler totally emailed me a T-Mobile phone.

15. Yes, if you believe #14, you owe me a dollar.

when the NDA dies, the only words I want to hear next is “BRK is doing a pod cast”… srsly, we miss them the most I think ^^

  2. Steve Lacey says:

Whether it’s about WoW or not, whether BRK returns in all of his glory or just as a Cataclysm alpha/beta blogger, I would be happy to welcome your return to more regular blogging. It’s your writing style that set you apart from the crowd, and I’ve missed it with the more infrequent blogging over here. Can’t wait for your first new posts though!

  3. Sulli says:

I completely agree with Steve. We are just happy to have you blogging more. Also I am glad that Blizzard called upon you to help them with this big transition for us hunters. There is no one in the community I trust more to give Blizzard the right feed back to keep the hunter class the awesome class that it is and has been for so long.

  4. Mania says:

Oh come on! You won’t have time to cover all the 700+ new and changed pets(*) as well as everything else huntery and you know it! Anyway you’re no good with pets — you probably still think that rhinos are sexy. *snort*

And Don’t forget the Steak!!! lol

  6. Algonquin says:

I said it one and I will say it AGAIN.
    woooo hoooo!

I look forward to reading BRK hunter posts again. When every you have the time no rush:)

    Cheers

    Alg

  7. DanM says:

ummm, so SOMEONE has to develop new shot rotations given that mana is going away. so we really have to leave it up to the EJ guys?

  8. ThorranSr says:

BRK, so far the highlight of the Alpha was bumping into you 5 minutes after reading your post. Yeah, yeah, worgens are cool too, I suppose.

I tried to tame a druid- still didn’t work. I assume that’s just a bug.

  9. Dkosmama says:

    Answer to my prayers! WooHoo!

  10. kunukia says:

Any BRK we get is better than no BRK. Glad your son is the center of your life, he should be.

I look forward to your posts, as others have said your writing style is the best. Where the heck AM I going to go for shot rotations though?

  11. Nar says:

Just glad to have you back and (I assume) blogging more frequently whether it be about real life or hunters. I think someone more skilled than I should put together a Most Interesting Hunter In The World video in honor of having the BRK persona join Mr. Howell again.

Also does the “5. Yes, a new BRK EA is being groomed.” mean a new executive assistant?

    Narian, Khaz Modan

  12. May says:

“14. Yes, Ghostcrawler totally emailed me a T-Mobile phone.”
i think you meant mailed* there hehehe

but super excited you get to try the alpha/beta and cant wait for your guide :D

  13. Sally says:

    Fantastic, Sir :) *salutes*

  14. Toresh says:

What happened to the steak? I’m still hungry.

  15. Sham says:

    woot. ’nuff said.

  16. Chris says:

Daniel I have since edited my blog post. As I stated in my email I apologize for the misinformation. I was having a technical issue with the wordpress software and made a mistake.

  17. Henry says:

    Have fun, bro.

  18. Symentol says:

Honestly, Im super happy your dipping your ugly dwarf feet in the water. the hunter world hasnt been the same since you left.

    Keep it real BRK.

  19. ninjasuperspy says:

On #14: Back when I worked phone support for an ISP about 10 years ago, some shouting guy called me demanding that I set up his Eudora because “Bill Gates emailed [him] a house.” The call was cut short (at 9am) because he had to go get more to drink though, so I never found out how that ended up.

  20. Gnomeaggedon says:

It’s great to have you back.. but then you weren’t gone from here.

Point 6… I understand point 6 so well. My marriage broke own last year after years of trying to save it. WoW is an easy target, but in the end, the most important thing is that everyone is happier, can get on with their lives.. and most important of the most important.. the “innocent”, the children, get a good, balanced, happy view of the world.

    - Some of my friends and family want me to get the daggers out.
    - Some of my friends and family want me to get the marriage bandages out.
    - Me… I want my son to have a happy life, and that is best served with happy parents, those without daggers or bandages.

GL Daniel.. I hope you enjoy your alternate friends and family diversion.. I also hope you get that grill on!

  21. [...] Over on his personal blog, Daniel Howell broke the news that BRK is coming back for the Cataclysm alpha.  What this means for the future of Big Red Kitty is uncertain at the moment.  I sincerely hope [...]

  22. Matthias Heldt says:

How do you email a phone??????

  23. Shippleton says:

Sooo, BRK is temporarily out of retirement? I just wanna be sure, before I get all excited. Your actually doing BigRedKitty WorldWide Amalgamated Cataclysm Beta Hunter Guide Movies during the beta again??? I was worried I’d have to do it.

  24. Poxus says:

While no longer a Hunter but a Warlock, I still have fond memories of many many BRK reads.

I also know how family and WoW do not mix well unless you have a schedule that works for both. For me its family until they all go to sleep and then I get an hour or two to game on. It works out well now and even the wife doesn’t mind my nerdom now.

  25. Louise says:

    Damn you Daniel ;)

I went from your link to Mania’s page and got hopelessy drawn in to the Hunter Pets suggestions and still there now.

Not even have a a WoW account but now a hopeless wanter of Hunter Pets to go with my Pokemons :P

  26. Grateful says:

I can think of no one better that BRK to help Blizzard with all things hunterish. I’m hoping the expansion, and worgen, will get me back to playing the class I fell so in love with when I first started playing WoW. I really hope to see a few movies, and look forward to your posts. Gonna go re-bookmark Bigredkitty :)

P.S. I use the “spin-shot” that I learned from your videos on my lvl 80 mage. I get compliments on it all the time and I always point them to bigredkitty for your wonderful tutorial.

    Rock on

  27. Carrie says:

Very good to see you back, Sir. For however long you decide.

    /salute!

  28. Gnarf says:

I for one am very happy that you will be putting input in on the new hunters. I have been following your blogs for a couple years now and have loved every post/vid/pod cast you have done. Even if it is only for alpha, it will all be worth it to your fans.

    Much love,
    Gnarf

  29. Chuchaly says:

I think Gorriladin just pounded her chest quietly in her lone corporate cubical. Hope nobody heard me squeal. Where did I put that hunter file…

  30. Chuck says:

About point 6: Glad to hear wow wasn’t a huge factor in your divorce. As an “internet celebrity” of sorts, I’m sure you strive to keep your personal life out of it as much as possible, but every now and then, there is a small peek, which is usually out of context and leads people to speculate.

I think everyone who sends you feedback is a big fan of yours, and I’m sure wants your home life to be just as awesome as your online persona.

So yeah, keep your private life private as it should be.

Good luck Daniel, I hope you have a great time in the alpha. Are we going to hear about it one things go into beta? Will you be in the beta as well?

  31. Khraden says:

It’s good to hear that you are going to venture a bit back into the WoW world. You may not know me, but I’m one of those dirty paladin’s who have been following you for a long time now.

Keep up the good work, and keep up the family life. I have learned how to balance WoW and family, well not really balance, as the family gets a HUGE amount of that scale, but it is always important to keep things in moderation. I look forward to see what you come up with though, as I loved reading everything you did, and even created a dwarf BM hunter a while back in your honor, and love playing him.

Fo’ shizzle my friend, Fo’ shizzle.

  32. Kinzlayer says:

You know Daniel, your boy is at that ripe age for the lessons that WOW can teach… NOOOOoooo, honestly I and everyone else here would love to get us a little BRK, regardless of what that may mean. YESSSSS, we are selfish, we miss BRK, we miss everything that is the BIG GAME HUNTER represents!!! You know one of the pinnacle of things in Wrath would have been to see BRK standing proudly on top of the Frozen Throne with LK under his boots and Hobbes proudly beside him with a juicy Horror’s bone in his jaw. Beside, I’m just annoyed with all the hunters out there without someone to teach them to not face/pet/threat pull on Festgut/Rotface. It never fails whenever my guild goes into ICC25 each week to have some hunter (we have 5) who would rotate being the HUNTARD.

  33. Eoleo says:

<3 Squee! WB, even if temporarily.

  34. Morphine says:

I knew you would be back. Might as well go whole hog. Get that account out and play like you know you want to.

  35. Oliguarde says:

I’m just happy to have you back to the blogging world for a bit. You’re a bright spot on the dark back of the hairy beast that is the interwebs.

…okay, remind me to never use that analogy again.

  36. Kor says:

    Fo’shizzle!

I went to get a Raspberry Latte in celebration.

    <3 BRK

  37. NDA says:

“1. Yes, I’m trying the WoW Friends and Family Alpha. BRKworgen and BRKgoblin are running amok.

    2. No, I’m not going to violate the Non-Disclosure Agreement.”

You did break the NDA by actually mentioning that you’re in the alpha.

  38. Adam says:

    Daniel,

I’ve always kept an eye on ur blog and what u were upto. as an Older hunter .. (with kids!) I felt like many people I’m sure, a bond to you and owed much of my understanding of the game and class to you. The fact u had the personality to make it sound funny and accessible was the icing on the cake!
I compeletley respect ur chioce to spend time with ur son, as family is THE most important thing. Yet as its clear to me u have so much talent and so much to give to the wow community its good to have you back in whatever form. /wave from me here in London.. WB :)
